Nene staying in Denver

Denver, CO (My Sportsbook) - The Denver Nuggets have re-signed free agent center Nene on Wednesday.

Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the Denver Post reported on Tuesday that the deal was for five years and worth as much as $67 million.

The 6-foot-11 native of Brazil has played his entire nine-year career in Denver.

"We've always said that Nene is a Nugget, and we are happy to welcome him back to Denver," Denver vice president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri said. "Quality big men are hard to find, but we feel we have one of the best. Not only is he a great player, but he is a great person who will be part of our roster for years to come."

Last season, Nene logged a career high-tying 14.5 per game to go with 7.6 rebounds, which are close to his career numbers of 12.3 points and 6.9 boards per game.

He also led the league in shooting percentage in 2010-11, making 61.5 percent of his attempts.

The No. 1 overall pick of Washington in 2001, he has played in 576 games in the NBA with Washington, the Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis, Detroit and Charlotte.

During that time, he has averaged 22.5 minutes, 6.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.

Bulls sign Richard Hamilton

Chicago, IL (My Sportsbook) - The Chicago Bulls signed veteran guard Richard Hamilton on Wednesday.

Hamilton heads to Chicago after a very successful nine-season stint with Detroit (2002-2011), helping the Pistons make six consecutive trips to the Eastern Conference Finals (2003-2008), two trips to the NBA Finals (2004, 2005) and an NBA Championship in 2004.

The 33-year-old Connecticut product averaged 14.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 55 games (39 starts) last season.

Hamilton is one of six players in Pistons franchise history to reach the 11,000-point plateau and one of five players to score 50-plus points in a game. He led the team in scoring for eight of his nine seasons.

"We are excited to welcome a player, and person, with the credentials of Richard Hamilton to our organization," said Chicago Bulls general manager Gar Forman. "Rip has been a winner at every level. His resume speaks for itself, and we are confident that he will be an excellent fit with our team, both on and off the floor."

In 631 games as a Piston, he averaged 18.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists.

Hamilton has averaged 17.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists in 843 career games (710 starts) with Washington and Detroit.

NBA-owned Hornets ship Chris Paul to Clippers

Los Angeles, CA (My Sportsbook) - The Chris Paul saga came to an end Wednesday night, as the league-owned New Orleans Hornets sent the star guard to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Los Angeles sent guard Eric Gordon, center Chris Kaman, forward Al-Farouq Aminu and Minnesota's unprotected 2012 first-round pick to the Hornets for Paul. The Clippers will also receive two future second-round picks to complete the trade.

The 26-year-old Paul requested a trade soon after the five-month lockout came to an end.

But the league nixed deals between Paul and the Lakers and then the Clippers before accepting Wednesday's trade.

Paul and All-Star forward Blake Griffin will potentially form one of the most dynamic tandems in the league.

A four-time NBA All-Star selection, Paul averaged 15.8 points and 9.8 assists in 80 games for New Orleans last season.

Selected fourth overall by the Hornets in the 2005 NBA Draft, Paul showed early on that he was going to be a star in the league. The Wake Forest product averaged 16.1 points and 7.8 assists to earn NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 2006.

Paul has averaged 18.7 points, 9.9 assists and 2.4 steals over 425 career games with the Hornets. In 23 playoff games, Paul has averaged 21.9 points, 11.1 assists and 5.3 rebounds.

A member of the All-NBA First Team in 2008, Paul was selected to the Second Team in 2009 and Third Team in 2011.

"We wanted to make sure that we got the best possible deal for a player of Chris' caliber, and we feel great about the outcome," Hornets chairman and governor Jac Sperling said. "We feel our future looks very bright and we look forward to continue to create an organization that New Orleans will be proud of. We want to thank Chris Paul, an extraordinary person who contributed so greatly to our basketball team and our community. We wish him the best of luck."

Despite losing Paul, the Hornets get a quality guard in Gordon. The three- year pro out of Indiana had a break out season in 2010-11, averaging 22.3 points and 4.4 assists.

Kaman's numbers dropped off a bit last season, but the eight-year veteran still averages 11.8 points and 8.3 rebounds.

Aminu played in 81 games as a rookie last season, averaging 5.6 points and 3.3 rebounds.

"With this trade, we now have three additional players who were among the top eight draft picks in their respective drafts as well as our own first round pick and the more favorable first round pick of Los Angeles or Minnesota," said Hornets general manager Dell Demps. "Aminu is a young talent with a bright future, Gordon is a big time scorer and one of the best two guards in the league and Kaman is a proven center and former All-Star. Combined with our other players, we will field a competitive team and our future looks great."

Timberwolves sign Barea

Minneapolis, MN (My Sportsbook) - The Minnesota Timberwolves signed free- agent guard J.J. Barea on Wednesday.

Barea played in 81 games for Dallas last season, averaging 9.5 points and 3.9 assists. He also averaged 8.9 points and 3.4 assists in 21 playoff games for the World Champion Mavericks.

"We are excited to add J.J. Barea to our team," said David Kahn, Timberwolves president of basketball operations. "His experience, leadership capabilities and all-around play should help us immensely this coming season and beyond."

Over 315 career games (45 starts) with Dallas, Barea has averaged 7.1 points, 2.9 assists and 1.8 rebounds.

Cavs waive Baron Davis

Cleveland, OH (My Sportsbook) - The Cleveland Cavaliers waived guard Baron Davis on Wednesday and designated him as the team's amnesty player.

As per the amnesty clause, the Cavaliers will pay Davis the remainder of his contract, but it will not count against the team's salary cap total.

The move comes just hours after Cleveland announced that Davis has a bulging disc in his back and will be out indefinitely.

Davis played in 43 games for the Los Angeles Clippers last season before being dealt to the Cavs at the trade deadline. In 58 total contests last year, Davis averaged 13.1 points, 6.7 assists and 2.7 rebounds.

"We would like to thank Baron for his contributions to the team during his time in Cleveland," Cavs general manager Chris Grant said. "He has been an absolute professional since the day he joined the Cavs and we now wish him the best in the future."

The 12-year pro out of UCLA has career averages of 16.5 points, 7.3 assists and 3.9 rebounds over 806 games (678 starts) with the Hornets, Warriors, Clippers and Cavaliers.

Report: Chris Paul traded to Clippers

(My Sportsbook) - The Chris Paul saga is reportedly over, as the league- owned New Orleans Hornets have agreed in principle to deal the star guard to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Mavs send Fernandez, Brewer to Nuggets

Denver, CO (My Sportsbook) - The Denver Nuggets acquired forward Rudy Fernandez and guard/forward Corey Brewer from the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday in exchange for a second-round draft pick.

"We are excited to add two talented young wing players who have proven themselves in the NBA," Nuggets executive vice president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri said. "They add depth to our roster, something that helped us finish strong last season, and I'm confident they will fit well with coach [George] Karl's style of play."

Fernandez joined the Mavs earlier this offseason via a three-way trade. He has only played for the Portland Trail Blazers throughout his three-year career and has averaged 9.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 218 career games.

Brewer, who won two national titles with Florida and was part of Dallas' championship team last year, has averaged 8.9 points and 3.2 rebounds over four seasons with the Mavericks and Timberwolves.
